Because
of it's unlimited usability,
fischertechnik
is superbly suited for simulation and training in
industrial applications. Very often, industry models
are built to plan plants and machines, eg. assembly
belts, before the "real" ones are bought, so you are
able to detect and solve problems in advance. fischertechnik
can be used to simulate very complex factory automation
projects; this makes planning the real plant much
easier and will save money.

fischertechnik
industrial
application
|
For
over 25 years, since 1975, fully functional industrial
plants have been built with fischertechnik - worldwide.
Although
fischertechnik components are not built to
a specific scale, they are well suited to model industrial
factory automation designs. Volkswagen had a large
30 foot simulation model constructed to test the overall
concept and the number of inputs and outputs needed
before they built the real assembly line. Other companies
like IBM, Square D and Allen Bradley to name a few,
have had special models made to demonstrate new software
at trade shows and for internal sales demonstrations.
Training models have been designed and built for companies
that want to teacher ladder-logic on Programmable
Logic Controllers without the need to tie up an actual
assembly line.
fischertechnik
is also very popular
in schools and universities to teach mechanical engineering
and computer integrated manufacturing (CIM)
in both Europe and the United States. It's perfectly
suited for PLC-controlling, as fischertechnik industry
models can be equipped with almost any PLC. Electric
and electronic components can be driven with 24V.
The models can be developed individually for your
purpose or compiled by modules. The following are
industrial examples developed by Staudinger
in Germany:
Presentation:
- High
level storage warehouse with two rows combined with
transport and sorting lines, Siemens AG
- Transporting
unit for air freight, controlled via transponders,
Lufthansa Systems
- Welding
and painting line, Siemens Museum
- Car
wash line, Deutsches Museum
Training
& Education:
- CIM
model factory, TU Berlin
- CIM
model factory with Interbus communication, FH Kaiserslautern
- Assembling
line (world-wide support of all training centers,
in total 1.200 pieces), Siemens AG
- Flexible
process line with tool machines, BMW AG, Daimler
Chrysler
- Welding
station, Siemens AG
- Car
wash line, Alfred Kärcher GmbH
- Process
cell with Profibus communication, Opel AG
- Lifting
tables, Hans-Seidel-Stiftung, Peking
- Logistic
modules Kentac, Japan
Development/Preplanning:
- Galvanic
unit, Lucas Automotive
- Portal
saw, Robert Schlatter

The
Automated Factory
Handbook
|
A
good resourse on the use of fischertechnik
in industrial settings can be found in the book, The
Automated Factory Handook by David
Cleland and Bopaya Bidanda. Chapter 22 , Physical
Simulation of Automated Manufacturing Systems,
focuses on the use of fischertechnik in the
role of a physical simulation tool with all the resultant
advantages. It defines a physical simulation as "the
use of scaled-down models of production systems that
are fully functional and mimic the operations of the
system modeled." It also discusses the reasons for
developing a physical simulation, the different types
of design, the types of software control, the instructional
and research applications and the cost benefits. This
book gives a good overview, complete with pictures
of how industrial simulations can be done with fischertechnik.
It is a great resourse on the topic of Manufacturing
Automation with over 700 pages of useful information
