The Automated Factory
handbook provides a first-ever compendium of expert
knowledge on the managerial and technical issues involved
in converting today's factories into the fully automated plants
of the future. Drawing on the lessons of the past decade,
more than 40 leading specialists in the field express their
views on the implementation of the latest manufacturing technology
- as well as on the changing roles of management and labor
- in the automated workplace of the 1990s.
Practical explanations
give you the working knowledge you need to implement an effective
system of computer integrated manufacturing (CIM), particularly
in such areas as the design, planning, and control of manufacturing
process and products. You'll find complete coverage of personnel
management issues, design considerations, and the nuts and
bolts of automated factory control and operation.
In order to survive
in today's increasingly competitive world market, you must
have a clear understanding of the tools and techniques required
to fully automate your manufacturing systems. With The
Automated Factory Handbook, costly trial and error need
not be part of the process.
This book covers the
use of fischertechnik as a simulation tool. Chapter
22, titled "Physical Simulation of Automated Manufacturing
System", describes how fischertechnik can be used for
this purpose. One of the co-authors is Michael Deisenroth,
a Professor of Industrial Engineering and Director of the
Manufacturing, Automation, and Robotics Laboratory in the
Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia
Polytechnic Institute and State University at the time the
book was published. The chapter covers many topics including
the history of physical simulation, different types of models,
reasons for developing a physical simulation, software testing
and debugging and the cost benefits of physical simulation.
The chapter shows numerous pictures of fischertechnik
models which have been used in advanced industrial simulations.
